"Keeper of the Castle" was recorded and released by the American vocal quartet The Four Tops in 1972. This was the first hit the group scored on the ABC Dunhill label after leaving Motown in 1972. The song, a social commentary on men's roles in relationships, was co-written by Dennis Lambert, who also produced the song, and other tracks from the same album. Upon release, the single peaked at #10 on the U.S. pop chart and #7 on Billboard's R&B chart. Overseas, "Keeper of the Castle" peaked at #18 on the UK singles chart.
